Electrical Principal Engineer

We're looking for a Principal Engineer (Electrical) to join our Water Sector team based in the UK.

Location: Flexible location, based from home or local office with nationwide travel
Hours: Full time - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.

As the Principal Engineer (Electrical), you'll be the senior independent technical authority for electrical and DSEAR assurance across MEICA activities. This is a strategic role focused on compliance, risk management and technical excellence, providing objective oversight and guidance to support safe, compliant electrical operations across our Water Sector projects and frameworks.

What will you be responsible for?

As a Principal Engineer (Electrical), you'll be working within the MEICA Technical Assurance, Compliance and Electrical Safety team, supporting them in delivering independent technical assurance and compliance leadership. Your day to day will include:

• Providing principal-level electrical and DSEAR assurance, compliance advice and constructive technical challenge on a prioritised, risk-based basis
• Developing and maintaining electrical and DSEAR standards, engineering guidance, Electrical Safety Rules and assurance tools
• Leading targeted assurance activities including audits, technical health checks and reviews of high-risk project outputs
• Reviewing and challenging electrical designs, hazardous area classifications, DSEAR Management Plans and verification evidence
• Chairing the Electrical Working Group and mentoring key electrical and assurance roles across the sector

What are we looking for?

This role of Principal Engineer (Electrical) is great for you if:

• You have strong knowledge of electrical safety legislation, Electrical Safety Rules, the Electricity at Work Regulations, DSEAR Regulations, ATEX principles, BS 7671, BS EN 60079 and WIMES
• You have significant experience in electrical and DSEAR technical assurance, audit, compliance oversight or governance within MEICA, utilities, process, industrial or infrastructure environments
• You can provide independent technical challenge, compliance advice and risk-based assurance reporting without direct line authority
• You have experience reviewing electrical designs, DSEAR Management Plans, hazardous area classifications and commissioning documentation
• You're able to influence stakeholders, coordinate specialist input and escalate material concerns effectively
