Environment and Sustainability Coordinator

We're looking for an Environmental Coordinator to join our HMP Glasgow team on a fixed term contract for 18 months in a key role supporting the the environmental and sustainability ambitions of the project.

 

Location: Glasgow - on site with some opportunity for hybrid working


Hours: 40 per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.

This is an excellent opportunity to support the delivery of environmental commitments on a live construction project at HMP Glasgow. As Environmental Coordinator, you'll play a vital role in ensuring environmental risks are identified, managed and monitored, whilst helping the project remain compliant with legal, client and Kier standards. You'll champion best practice across our supply chain, support audits and reporting, and contribute to achieving sustainability targets including waste reduction, carbon management, pollution prevention, biodiversity protection and considerate construction.

What will you be responsible for?

As an Environmental Coordinator, you'll be working within the HMP Glasgow team, supporting them in delivering environmental and sustainability excellence. Your day to day will include:

  • Supporting the implementation of the Project Environmental Management Plan and maintaining environmental documentation including risk assessments, compliance trackers, waste records and inspection logs
  • Carrying out regular environmental site inspections, identifying risks such as water pollution, dust, noise and spills, and working collaboratively with site teams to implement effective controls
  • Driving compliance with waste segregation and duty of care requirements, maintaining accurate resource data and promoting resource efficiency across the project
  • Supporting sustainability outcomes including carbon reduction initiatives, biodiversity requirements, supply chain engagement and scheme-specific deliverables
  • Engaging with package managers, site teams, subcontractors and clients to build strong environmental behaviours, deliver toolbox talks and support audits and reporting

What are we looking for?

This role of Environmental Coordinator is great for you if:

  • You hold a degree in a sustainability or environmental specialism
  • You're confident with data analysis and have experience in sustainability reporting covering areas such as waste, carbon, water and responsible sourcing
  • You have strong organisational and administration skills with attention to detail in document control and tracking
  • You can communicate clearly and collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels, building positive relationships across teams
  • You're a competent IT user, particularly with MS Office and Excel for data handling and reporting
