Estimator
We're looking for an Estimator to join our rail team based nationwide.
Location: Nationwide - remote working available, with infrequent travel to the office required
Hours: 40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us
What will you be responsible for?
As Estimator, you'll be working within the Estimating team, supporting the successful delivery of rail infrastructure projects by producing accurate, competitive, and commercially sound cost estimates. Working closely with pre-construction, commercial, and delivery teams, assessing project requirements, analysing tender documentation, and developing pricing strategies that align with client expectations and business objectives. Your expertise will help shape winning bids and ensure robust financial planning across a diverse portfolio of rail works.
Your day to day will include:
- Preparing detailed cost estimates for rail infrastructure projects from first principles, analysing tender documents, drawings, and specifications to identify cost drivers and risks
- Liaising with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to gather and validate pricing information, supporting bid submissions and contributing to pricing strategy and commercial reviews
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of market trends, material costs, and industry benchmarks
- Identifying value engineering opportunities and cost-saving measures, ensuring compliance with relevant contract types (e.g. NEC, JCT) and estimating procedures
- Assisting in post-tender negotiations and handover to delivery teams.
What are we looking for?
This role of Estimator is great for you if:
- You hold experience in a similar level role within rail or infrastructure along with the relevant qualifications
- Have a thorough understanding of civil engineering, rail systems, and construction methodologies, proficiency in estimating software (e.g. Candy, Causeway) and Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental standards in rail projects
We're all about finding potential here at Kier, and transferrable skills are always welcome! So, even if you don't tick every box, please apply and we can have a chat.
