Graduate Electrical / Mechanical Design Engineer

We're looking for a Graduate Electrical or  Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Kier Design team based out of a one of our offices.

Location: Based out of one of our offices in either Manchester, London or Liverpool

Hours: 40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.

Starting Salary: £31,000 per annum 

Pathway: Permanent, Full-time 2-year programme, leading to assistant level role upon completion with salary potential of CIRCA £38k  

Starting date: September 2027

This is a fantastic opportunity for a recent graduate to gain broad experience within a top-25 consultant with access to Kier's £11bn+ pipeline of construction and infrastructure projects. You'll enrol on Kier's Graduate Development Programme and benefit from industry-leading technical training, rotations across different areas of the design business, a site secondment to a Kier project, and mentorship support to achieve professional qualification. We operate a merit-based approach to promotion, putting you in charge of the pace of your development and progression.

What will you be responsible for?

As a Graduate Electrical or Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll be working within the Kier Design team, supporting them in delivering a range of designs and consultancy services across all sectors of the built environment. Your day to day will include:

• Contributing to the design and checking of permanent design solutions
• Assisting with tender and bid-winning support, including outline design schemes and feasibility studies
• Supporting the development of alternative solutions and value engineering
• Conducting site visits, surveys and inspections, and attending meetings with clients and stakeholders
• Identifying technical risks and solutions to facilitate scoping, pricing, design and construction

What are we looking for?

We're looking for people due to graduate in 2027, or have recently graduated within the past three years, with a degree in Electrical or Mechanical engineering. This role of Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer is great for you if you:

• Have completed an Engineering Council accredited degree in electrical/building services or mechanical engineering or a closely-related discipline
• Demonstrate a genuine interest in pursuing a career in electrical or mechanical engineering and the construction industry, with clear motivation to learn and develop professionally
• Have strong analytical and critical thinking skills with excellent attention to detail
• Show enthusiasm for learning new skills and the ability to adapt in response to feedback
• You hold a full driving licence
