Mechanical Design Engineer
We're looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our MEICA team based in Salford within the water and wastewater sector. Kier Design are a highly regarded Tier 1 Contractor, with a 750 plus strong design consultancy team, recognised as a Top 30 employer on Glassdoor.
Location: Salford
Hours: 40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.
Salary: starting from £40,000 per year

Are you…
- A Chartered Engineer with membership of an appropriate Professional Body (IET or IMechE)
- Fully competent with extensive experience within the water, wastewater or process related industries, including hydraulic design and pumping systems
- Experienced in problem solving and decision making with strong understanding of SHE requirements
- Able to understand information and data, patterns, trends and relationships in order to make effective decisions
- Able to pass the BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) requirements
What will you be responsible for?
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll be working within the MEICA team, supporting them in delivering mechanical design solutions across complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
You'll support capital and operational projects, ensuring compliance with water industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company engineering policies. Working collaboratively within an integrated design team, you'll contribute to innovative solutions that make a real difference to our clients and communities.
Your day to day will include:
- Producing detailed mechanical designs for pumping stations, treatment works, and network assets for both potable water and wastewater applications
- Preparing and agreeing mechanical design requirements from the client's remit, ensuring it is fully understood, questioning and challenging where necessary
- Providing support for mechanical design including feasibility studies, outline design, production and evaluation of concepts focused on buildability, efficiency, and innovation
- Ensuring designs comply with UK water industry standards (WIMES), British Standards, Water Regulations, CDM 2015 and client specifications
- Working collaboratively with civil, electrical and process engineers to ensure integrated, efficient asset design
