We're looking for a Public Liaison Officer to join our M6 Lune Gorge team based in Tebay. As a Public Liaison Officer, you'll play a vital role in building and maintaining strong relationships with customers and stakeholders impacted by our work on the M6 Lune Gorge project.

Location: M6 Lune Gorge, Tebay – Site based 5 days per week
Hours: Permanent Fulltime 45 hours per week
Salary: £32,000 - £38,000 per year + £4,750 annual car allowance + benefits
We are unable to offer certificates of sponsorship to any candidates in this role

What will you be responsible for?

As a Public Liaison Officer, you'll be the friendly face and first point of contact for the local community, ensuring everyone stays informed and engaged throughout the project.

Your day to day will include:

  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with customers, stakeholders, and the local community affected by the project
  • Coordinating communications through various channels including letter drops, face-to-face meetings, and community events
  • Acting as the main point of contact and go-to person for the local community, responding to enquiries and concerns with care and professionalism
  • Maintaining accurate records of all stakeholder engagement on National Highways' CRM system
  • Supporting social value opportunities, including charitable events, school engagement, and careers fairs

What are we looking for?

This Public Liaison Officer role could be a great fit if you:

  • Bring experience in a similar role, with confidence in engaging a wide range of people and understanding different customer needs
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, whether that's in writing or face to face, with the ability to make complex information easy to understand
  • Take pride in being approachable, organised, and genuinely supportive, building positive relationships with those around you
  • Stay calm under pressure and are comfortable making decisions quickly, always aiming to find fair and inclusive solutions
  • Have solid IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel, and are open to learning and using new digital tools
