Senior Legal Counsel
We're looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join our Transportation team based in flexible and agile locations with travel to London and sites as needed.
Location: Flexible/Agile (with travel to London and sites as needed)
Hours: Full time - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.
We are unable to offer certificates of sponsorship to any candidates in this role.
This is an exciting opportunity to join Kier's Transportation business as a trusted legal adviser. You'll work across our Roads, Rail and Airports/Ports sectors, supporting business leaders and project teams on everything from bids and procurement to delivery and disputes. We're looking for someone who can build strong relationships and provide pragmatic, solutions-focused legal support that helps our teams succeed.
What will you be responsible for?
As a Senior Legal Counsel, you'll be working within the Legal, Compliance & Governance team, supporting them in providing essential legal and compliance support across our Infrastructure division. Your day to day will include:
- Building strong relationships with senior stakeholders and providing clear, commercially-focused legal advice across live projects
- Supporting bids for major infrastructure contracts and frameworks, advising on legal risk and strategy
- Advising on procurement and subcontracting, including drafting and negotiating contracts
- Supporting the management of disputes, working closely with commercial teams and external advisers
- Advising on regulatory matters and supporting internal governance and risk management processes
What are we looking for?
This role of Senior Legal Counsel is great for you if:
- You're a qualified Solicitor or Barrister (typically 8-10 years' PQE, though we'll consider those with noteworthy experience at lower PQE levels) admitted to England & Wales
- You're a collaborative relationship builder who enjoys working with people at all levels
- You have knowledge and experience of UK infrastructure contracting or construction law, gained from either private practice or in-house
- You have non-contentious experience and are willing to develop contentious skills (knowledge of NEC4 would be advantageous)
- You can articulate complex legal concepts in simple, commercial language
We're all about finding potential here at Kier, and transferrable skills are always welcome! So, even if you don't tick every box, please apply and we can have a chat.
Rewards and benefits
We're proud to be able to offer our brilliant people a wide variety of benefits that you can tailor to your needs. You can see more information of benefits here.
Diversity and inclusion
Making Kier a diverse and inclusive place to work is a huge priority for us. We're proud of the steps we've taken so far, but we know we must always do more. Our employees are key in shaping Kier's diversity and inclusion initiatives and our people have made a huge impact on how we work, by using their experiences to shape our policies. You can see our D&I action plan here. As a Disability Confident employer, we will ensure that a fair and proportionate number of disabled applicants that meet the minimum criteria for this role will be offered an interview.
We look forward to seeing your application to #joinkier.
