We're looking for a Team Leader Mechanical Technician to join our Velindre Cancer Centre team based in Wales.

Location: Velindre Cancer Centre, Wales
Hours: Full Time (40 hours per week) - Continental Shift Pattern: 4 On / 4 Off (2 Days / 2 Nights / 4 Rest). Day: 07:00-17:00, Night: 19:00-07:00

We are unable to offer certificates of sponsorship to any candidates in this role.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the engineering shift while working as part of a multidisciplinary Estates and Facilities team within a modern specialist cancer care facility. You'll combine hands-on delivery of complex maintenance work with day-to-day coordination of the engineering shift, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of mechanical systems that support vital healthcare services. Working in a patient-focused environment, you'll use your specialist knowledge to guide the team, coordinate priorities, and maintain the highest standards of operational performance while minimising disruption to clinical services.

What will you be responsible for?

As a Team Leader Mechanical Technician, you'll be working within the Estates and Facilities team, supporting them in delivering safe, effective and efficient operation of mechanical systems within a specialist cancer care facility. Your day to day will include:

  • Leading the engineering shift by coordinating planned, reactive and emergency maintenance activities and ensuring work is allocated and progressed effectively
  • Undertaking planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs across mechanical systems including heating, ventilation, water systems, compressed air and piped medical gas systems
  • Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs using specialist technical knowledge and safe working practices in line with HTMs and statutory requirements
  • Maintaining water systems compliance including temperature monitoring, Legionella control measures and system inspections to healthcare standards
  • Providing clear shift handovers and acting as the primary engineering contact, supporting effective communication with clinical teams and stakeholders

What are we looking for?

This role of Team Leader Mechanical Technician is great for you if:

  • You hold a recognised mechanical qualification such as City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3, apprenticeship or equivalent
  • You have demonstrable experience in mechanical maintenance within a complex or regulated environment, including planned and reactive maintenance
  • You have strong technical understanding of mechanical building services systems including heating, ventilation, water systems and associated controls
  • You can interpret technical drawings and schematics, analyse faults and coordinate others effectively during the shift
  • You're able to work a 4 on / 4 off shift pattern including days and nights, with a flexible and responsive approach to operational demands
