Building Surveying Lead
We're looking for a Building Surveyor Lead to join our Design – Architecture team based nationwide.
Location: Nationwide - remote working available, with occasional travel to the office required.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.
Salary: Starting from £70,000 per annum
Sector: Design – Architecture

This is an exciting opportunity to provide leadership and direction to our Building Surveying discipline within Kier Design's Architecture & Building Consultancy capability group. You'll oversee the delivery of high-quality building surveying services to internal and external clients across the public and private sectors, whilst providing technical leadership, developing client relationships, and supporting work-winning activity.

What will you be responsible for?
The Building Surveying Lead will provide leadership to and management of the Building Surveying discipline within Kier Design's Architecture & Building Consultancy capability group. The role oversees the delivery of high‑quality building surveying services to internal and external clients across the public and private sectors, providing technical leadership, developing client relationships, supporting work‑winning activity and personally delivering surveying services where required.
Key Requirements
- Chartered Building Surveyor (RICS or equivalent)
- Proven experience leading Building Surveying teams
- Strong background delivering Building Surveying services across multiple sectors
- Commercially aware with experience of administering both JCT & NEC contracts
- Effective communicator with clients and senior stakeholders
- Sound understanding of health, safety and wellbeing
- Commitment to diversity, inclusion and team development
Main Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the delivery of Building Surveying services to internal and external clients in line with statutory requirements, Kier HSE standards, IMS processes and industry best practice
- Act as Building Surveying Lead, providing technical leadership, professional oversight and subject matter expertise
- Personally deliver Building Surveying services on complex or high‑profile commissions, achieving agreed utilisation targets
- Lead, manage and develop Building Surveying teams, including direct and indirect line management
- Plan, allocate and forecast workloads and resources to ensure effective service delivery and utilisation
- Maintain oversight of project delivery, ensuring work is delivered on time, within budget and to required standards
- Apply effective project management, including programme control, risk management, stakeholder engagement, reporting and client feedback
- Monitor performance of Building Surveying commissions, undertaking project reviews where required
- Support staff development through mentoring, CPD, performance reviews and career guidance
- Manage recruitment and growth of the Building Surveying discipline
- Support and deputise for the Head of Architecture & Building Consultancy as required
