We're looking for a Caretaker to join our team based in Downsell Primary School, Waltham Forest.

Location: Downsell Primary School, Waltham Forest
Hours: 40 hours per week

We are unable to offer certificates of sponsorship to any candidates in this role.

As a Caretaker, you'll play a vital role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment at Downsell Primary School. You'll support day-to-day operations and planned maintenance activities, ensuring the site is well-presented for staff, pupils, and visitors. This is a hands-on role where you'll carry out minor repairs, liaise with contractors, and help maintain the overall condition of the building and grounds.

What will you be responsible for?

As a Caretaker, you'll be working within the site operations team, supporting them in maintaining a safe and well-maintained school environment. Your day to day will include:

  • Carrying out minor building repairs, adjustments, and maintenance tasks such as joinery, plumbing, changing light bulbs, and painting
  • Completing daily, weekly, and monthly safety checks and planned preventative maintenance, recording them accurately on our tablet-based system
  • Managing site security as a keyholder, including locking and unlocking the building and setting alarms
  • Liaising with contractors and visitors, ensuring they follow site procedures and have the correct documentation in place
  • Supporting grounds maintenance, accepting deliveries, and setting up rooms for meetings as required

What are we looking for?

This role of Caretaker is great for you if:

  • You have previous experience in maintenance duties with strong DIY skills
  • You're physically fit and able to carry out lifting and handling tasks safely
  • You have excellent communication skills and enjoy working collaboratively with colleagues and clients
  • You're comfortable using tablets and computer systems to update work tasks and records
  • You're flexible, self-motivated, and able to work independently whilst prioritising tasks effectively
