We're looking for a Design Manager to join our STEP Fusion Programme team based in West Burton, Nottinghamshire.

Location: West Burton, Nottinghamshire - hybrid, with programme travel
Hours: Full time - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.

We are unable to offer certificates of sponsorship to any candidates in this role.

Join ILIOS, the Construction Partner for the UK's STEP fusion programme - a world-leading initiative to design and build a prototype fusion energy power plant. As Design Manager, you'll work across organisational and technical boundaries to create safe, compliant, coordinated and buildable design outcomes. This role offers the opportunity to be part of pioneering technology that will shape the future of energy production, promoting a best-for-programme approach while integrating design intent with delivery, assurance, digital information, commercial and operational requirements.

What will you be responsible for?

As a Design Manager, you'll be working within the Engineering team, supporting them in delivering multidisciplinary design for the STEP fusion programme. Your day to day will include:

  • Leading design management for allocated projects, establishing an integrated approach across architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, systems and specialist design inputs
  • Coordinating interfaces between stakeholders, partners, designers, specialist suppliers and delivery teams, ensuring gaps and conflicts are identified and resolved
  • Ensuring design activities comply with applicable legislation, contractual requirements, STEP standards and agreed technical governance
  • Embedding safe-by-design principles and leading buildability, installation, logistics and construction-sequencing input into design development
  • Developing and maintaining design programmes and deliverable schedules, monitoring progress and managing design risks, change and technical queries

What are we looking for?

This role of Design Manager is great for you if:

  • You hold a degree-level qualification, or equivalent demonstrable experience, in engineering, architecture, construction management or a related discipline
  • You have significant experience managing multidisciplinary design delivery on complex infrastructure, energy, nuclear, industrial, science, transport or other highly regulated projects
  • You possess strong understanding of design governance, technical assurance, design risk, change control, interfaces, buildability and design-supply-chain management
  • You have working knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and the responsibilities of Designers and Principal Designers
  • You demonstrate clear written and verbal communication, strong facilitation skills and the confidence to challenge and influence at all levels, with the ability to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for the role

As a Disability Confident employer, we will ensure that a fair and proportionate number of disabled applicants that meet the minimum criteria for this role will be offered an interview.

Due to the nature of this role, you will also be required to complete an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check (applicants with convictions will be treated on a case-by-case basis. We do not discriminate based on an applicant's conviction history or the details of any convictions disclosed to us). Some roles may also be subject to further pre-employment checks.
