Engineering Manager

Engineering Manager | Civil Engineering & Major Infrastructure

Location: Suffolk | Sizewell C Project
Hours: 45 hours per week, with some flexibility available. Let us know your preferences when speaking with us.

We're looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join Kier's team supporting the delivery of Sizewell C, one of the UK's most significant infrastructure and low-carbon energy projects.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in a nationally important programme, helping to deliver the civil engineering infrastructure that will support the development of a new nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast.

As Engineering Manager, you'll provide technical leadership across complex engineering activities, influencing design decisions, overseeing temporary works and engineering assurance, and guiding teams to deliver safely and effectively.

You'll have the opportunity to apply your expertise to challenging engineering works, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to a project that will make a lasting difference to the UK's energy future.

We are unable to offer certificates of sponsorship to candidates for this role.

What will you be responsible for?

As an Engineering Manager, you'll work closely with the Chief Engineer and project delivery teams, providing technical direction and ensuring engineering activities meet the highest standards of safety, quality and compliance.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Technical leadership: Leading and overseeing civil engineering activities, providing engineering guidance from design and planning through to construction and delivery.
  • Design management and assurance: Managing contractor and temporary works design, reviewing and approving drawings, specifications and calculations to ensure technical compliance and buildability.
  • Temporary works and construction engineering: Providing oversight of temporary works, construction methodologies and lifting operations, where suitably experienced, to support safe and effective delivery.
  • Engineering risk management: Identifying technical risks, developing practical mitigation strategies and ensuring compliance with relevant engineering standards and safety requirements.
  • Team leadership: Mentoring and developing engineers and technical specialists, fostering collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Working closely with project managers, designers, contractors, clients and other key stakeholders to resolve engineering challenges and maintain project progress.
  • Quality and technical compliance: Reviewing inspection and test plans (ITPs), risk assessments and method statements (RAMS), and promoting consistent engineering standards across the project.

What are we looking for?

This role would suit an experienced engineering leader who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, supporting high-performing teams and delivering major infrastructure projects.

We're particularly interested in hearing from you if you have:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering and Chartered Engineer status (MICE, MIStructE or equivalent).
  • Strong experience in civil engineering, including technical leadership and engineering management responsibilities.
  • A proven track record of delivering large-scale or technically complex infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in design management, temporary works, technical assurance and construction engineering.
  • A strong understanding of civil engineering design standards, construction methodologies and regulatory requirements.
  • The ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, influence technical decisions and communicate confidently with stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving, risk management and decision-making skills.
  • A valid CSCS card.

It would also be great if you have:

  • Experience working on nuclear projects or within other highly regulated environments.
  • Previous experience as a Contractor's Responsible Engineer (CRE) or Contractor's Engineering Manager (CEM).
  • Knowledge of digital engineering, BIM and information management standards such as ISO 19650.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design and construction teams.

Don't meet every requirement?

At Kier, we're all about recognising potential and transferable skills. If you've built your engineering career across major infrastructure projects but haven't worked within nuclear before, we'd still encourage you to apply.

Your technical expertise, leadership experience and ability to deliver complex engineering solutions could be exactly what we're looking for.
