We're looking for an Environmental & Sustainability Manager to join our Rail team based in Oxford, Cambridge, or Bedford. This is an exciting opportunity to provide strategic leadership and specialist guidance across the East West Rail project. You'll lead a multidisciplinary team, drive innovation, champion best practice, and promote Kier Transportation's Sustainability Strategy whilst fostering a culture of continuous improvement and responsible delivery. A full driving licence with flexibility to visit sites as required for this role.

Location: Oxford/Cambridge/Bedford - travel across sites and offices required with some remote working available

Hours: Permanent Fulltime 42 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us

Salary: £50,000 - £65,000 per year + private healthcare + £5.9k annual car allowance + benefits

What will you be responsible for?

As an Environmental & Sustainability Manager, you'll ensure that all environmental, sustainability, and social impact requirements are fully integrated into project delivery, meeting legal, client, and company obligations.

Your day to day will include:

  • Ensuring compliance with all client environmental and sustainability requirements, commitments, and contractual obligations across the project
  • Maintaining and updating the Environmental and Social Management Plan and associated documentation
  • Identifying, obtaining, and managing environmental permits, licences, consents, and third-party approvals
  • Building strong relationships with clients, regulators, stakeholders, community groups, and the public
  • Monitoring, measuring, and reporting environmental performance, identifying opportunities for innovation and best practice

What are we looking for?

This Environmental & Sustainability Manager role would suit someone who brings both technical expertise and a passion for sustainability, including:

  • A degree in Environmental or Sustainability studies, or an equivalent qualification
  • Chartered status, or progress towards chartership, with a recognised professional body such as IEMA, CIWEM, CIEEM, or similar
  • Strong experience in environmental and sustainability management across major infrastructure, construction, rail, or transportation projects
  • A solid understanding of UK environmental legislation, planning requirements, and regulatory frameworks
  • Proven capability in managing environmental compliance, including permits, licences, and consents
