General Foreman

Kier Transportation is seeking a General Foreman to join our structures team on the A66 Penrith project. You'll work closely with the Works Manager to manage risks effectively and identify opportunities for improvement.

Location: Penrith A66 – site based 5 days per week
Hours: Permanent Fulltime 45 hours per week
Salary: up to £65,000 per year + private healthcare + £5,900 annual car allowance + benefits

What will you be responsible for?

As a General Foreman, you'll take responsibility for the efficient management of site resources, labour teams, and subcontractors, ensuring the safe and successful delivery of the project. Your day to day will include:

  • Delivering site inductions and toolbox talks, maintaining SHE registers, and contributing to safety plans
  • Supervising site direct labour and subcontractors, ensuring they are correctly qualified and working safely
  • Planning and producing construction programmes, ordering plant, materials, and equipment
  • Checking specifications and drawings against completed works and liaising with client representatives
  • Managing team workload effectively, identifying training needs, and maintaining site records and diaries

What are we looking for?

This General Foreman role is ideal if you:

  • Hold a CSCS Gold Card, SMSTS certification, and a valid First Aid qualification
  • Have proven experience delivering civil engineering, bridge, reinforced concrete, and formwork projects
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills, effectively managing site teams and subcontractors to deliver work safely and efficiently
  • Build positive relationships with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders through excellent communication and collaboration
  • Possess strong planning, decision-making, and commercial awareness, alongside a thorough understanding of Health & Safety and Temporary Works requirements
