HGV Technician
Location: 107 Longden Road Depot, Shrewsbury, SY3 9EL
Hours: 40 hours per week - 07:45 to 16:15
Salary: £33,425.60 to £34,486.40 per annum depending on experience and qualifications

The Fleet Services team ensures all operational vehicles—including Heavy Goods Vehicles, Light Commercial Vehicles, Gritters, Passenger Service Vehicles and cars—are maintained to the highest standards of safety, reliability and compliance. These vehicles support essential services such as winter maintenance, emergency response, highways operations and daily fleet use. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated team where your expertise will directly contribute to keeping our communities safe and connected.
What will you be responsible for?
As a Heavy Goods Vehicle Technician, you'll be working within the Fleet Services team, supporting them in maintaining a safe, reliable and compliant fleet. Your day to day will include:
- Carrying out routine servicing, inspections and statutory maintenance on HGVs, LCVs, gritters, PSVs and pool cars
- Diagnosing mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults using diagnostic equipment
- Completing reactive repairs, including roadside assistance and workshop-based work
- Supporting winter maintenance operations by ensuring gritting vehicles are fully serviceable
- Maintaining accurate electronic service records and job cards using fleet management software
What are we looking for?
This role of Heavy Goods Vehicle Technician is great for you if:
- You hold a full UK driving licence and a recognised motor vehicle or HGV mechanic qualification (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent)
- Have a HGV class 2 driving licence
- You have experience diagnosing and repairing faults on commercial or heavy vehicles
- You have a good understanding of workshop health and safety requirements
- You're well organised with strong communication skills and can prioritise your workload effectively
- You're self-motivated and enjoy working both independently and as part of a collaborative team
