Highways Maintenance Operative

We're looking for a Highways Maintenance Operative to join our Somerset team based in Glastonbury.

Location: Glastonbury, Somerset
Hours: 40 hours per week - Monday to Friday

Salary: From £27,976 per annum plus overtime, call out and standby

As a Highways Maintenance Operative, you'll play a vital role in keeping Somerset's highway network running smoothly and safely. Working closely with your Supervisor and team, you'll respond to highway defects, carry out maintenance works, and support emergency response activities. This is a hands-on role where every day brings variety, from reactive repairs to planned improvement schemes, and you'll be making a real difference to your local community.

What will you be responsible for?

As a Highways Maintenance Operative, you'll be working within the Somerset team, supporting them in delivering efficient highway services across the network. Your day to day will include:

  • Responding to highway defects within designated timescales and updating records using tablet devices
  • Installing and removing emergency traffic management signage to keep road users safe
  • Carrying out routine maintenance and repairs to the highway network using a variety of plant and equipment
  • Delivering minor improvement works to enhance the Somerset network
  • Supporting winter maintenance activities and severe weather operations when required

  • You hold a Full driving licence
