Highways Maintenance Operative - IRV
Come join our Birmingham Highways Maintenance team as a Highways Maintenance Operative Emergency Response, where you'll play a vital role in keeping our highways safe and well-maintained. This is an opportunity to work in a collaborative environment where your skills and dedication will make a real difference to the communities we serve.
Location: Thimble Mill Lane Depot, Aston Birmingham B7 5HR
Hours: 40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us

What will you be responsible for?
As a Highways Maintenance Operative Emergency Response, you'll be working within the Birmingham Highways Maintenance team, supporting them in delivering high-quality highway maintenance services. Your day to day will include:
- Responding to emergency highway defects, attending and making safe situations, and completing repairs to a high technical standard
- Driving and operating specialist vehicles and plant, including daily checks and routine maintenance
- Undertaking all aspects of highway maintenance works including routine, cyclical maintenance and minor civils works
- Taking responsibility for the safety of yourself, your team and the public, ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation
- Completing necessary paperwork and records, liaising with colleagues, emergency services, clients and the public
What are we looking for?
This role of Highways Maintenance Operative (Emergency Response) is ideal if you:
- Hold a full driving licence and can respond quickly to emergency and reactive highway maintenance incidents
- Have experience or knowledge of highways maintenance, roadworks, traffic management, or civil engineering activities
- Possess a valid CSCS Skilled Worker card (or higher) and understand safe working practices on the highway network
- Enjoy working as part of a team, supporting colleagues to deliver effective solutions in fast-paced operational environments
- Are committed to delivering high-quality work safely, professionally, and ethically while helping keep the road network operational for local communities
