Mechanical Principal Engineer

We're looking for a Principal Engineer (Mechanical) to join our Mechanical Assurance, Governance and Framework Support team based in Kier Water Division, national remit.

Location: Kier Water Division, national remit
Hours: Full-time - some flexibility on hours available if desired.

This is an exciting opportunity to provide senior mechanical engineering guidance, independent assurance and specialist support to our Water framework teams. You'll play a key role in strengthening mechanical governance, quality and technical consistency while supporting local teams across the country. Working on a proportionate, risk-based approach, you'll focus on significant mechanical risks, assurance priorities, escalations and complex technical issues.

What will you be responsible for?

As a Principal Engineer (Mechanical), you'll be working within the Mechanical Assurance, Governance and Framework Support team, supporting them in delivering mechanical engineering excellence and assurance across our Water frameworks. Your day to day will include:

• Providing principal-level mechanical advice, assurance and constructive challenges to Framework teams
• Supporting teams with complex or escalated mechanical design, installation, testing and commissioning matters
• Conducting risk-based assurance through targeted reviews, audits and technical health checks
• Leading the Mechanical Working Group to drive governance, lessons learned and continuous improvement
• Mentoring and supporting mechanical engineers and Authorising Engineers to build capability and consistency

What are we looking for?

This role of Principal Engineer (Mechanical) is great for you if:

• You hold a degree, higher technical qualification or equivalent demonstrable competence in mechanical engineering
• You have extensive mechanical engineering experience within the water, wastewater or similar industry
• You possess strong knowledge of mechanical governance, assurance, quality management and relevant industry standards
• You have proven experience resolving complex mechanical issues and influencing across functions
• You demonstrate sound engineering judgement, independent assurance skills and the ability to provide constructive challenge
