Operative
We're looking for an Operative to join our South West Water team based in Roundswell, Barnstaple.
Location: Roundswell, Barnstaple
Hours: 45 hours per week
We are unable to offer certificates of sponsorship to any candidates in this role.
As a Reinstatement Operative, you'll play a vital role in our Natural Resources, Nuclear & Networks team, supporting the South West Water contract. You'll be responsible for reinstating highways and surfaces following excavation works for water mains repairs, new connections, and other essential utilities projects, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute to essential infrastructure whilst developing your skills in a supportive environment.
What will you be responsible for?
As an Operative, you'll be working within the Natural Resources, Nuclear & Networks team, supporting them in delivering high-quality reinstatement works across the South West Water contract. Your day to day will include:
- Carrying out high-quality reinstatement works (tarmac, concrete, modular paving) following excavation
- Ensuring reinstatement meets HAUC and local authority specifications
- Operating plant and machinery safely (e.g., rollers, compactors)
- Completing job documentation using tablet-based systems
- Maintaining site safety and traffic management compliance
What are we looking for?
This role of Operative is great for you if:
- You have previous experience in highway reinstatement or utilities reinstatement (desired but not essential)
- You hold a Full driving licence (essential)
- You're able to work in a fast-paced environment and deliver quality results
- You have CSCS card, EUSR Water Hygiene, or NRSWA certification (desirable - training can be provided)
- You enjoy working collaboratively with teams to meet deadlines
