We're looking for a Section Engineer to join our East West Rail team based in St Neots, Cambridgeshire.

Location: St Neots, Cambridgeshire
Hours: 45 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.

We are unable to offer certificates of sponsorship to any candidates in this role.

Join our established Trial Trenching and Geotechnical investigation team on the East West Rail project, where you'll play a vital role in managing the technical compliance of the project to design specifications. You'll support the Sub-Agent in scheduling and managing engineering resources whilst ensuring everything is delivered safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your technical expertise whilst contributing to a major infrastructure project.

What will you be responsible for?

As a Section Engineer, you'll be working within the East West Rail team, supporting them in delivering trial trenching and geotechnical investigation works. You'll play a vital role in managing the technical compliance of the project to design specifications. You'll support the Sub-Agent in scheduling and managing engineering resources whilst ensuring everything is delivered safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your technical expertise whilst contributing to a major infrastructure project.

Your day to day will include:

  • Managing technical compliance of your section to design specifications whilst maintaining quality assurance and producing inspection test plans
  • Coordinating the arrival of drilling rigs, excavators, and surveying equipment, ensuring all permits are in place
  • Overseeing in-situ soil and rock testing, including Standard Penetration Tests (SPT), Hand Shear Vane, CBR, and BRE 365 soakaway tests
  • Supervising utilities clearance and trial trenching operations to safely identify and expose underground utilities
  • Building strong relationships with clients and stakeholders whilst leading on health, safety and quality matters for your section

What are we looking for?

This role of Section Engineer is great for you if:

  • You hold a degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, Construction Management or have equivalent experience in the field
  • You have experience in trial trenching and ground investigation works
  • You possess strong communication skills and enjoy collaborating with diverse teams, clients and stakeholders
  • You're committed to health, safety and wellbeing, with the ability to implement safe systems of work
  • You hold a relevant CSCS card and have solid IT skills alongside strong planning and decision-making abilities
