Social Value Manager

Kier Construction is seeking a passionate and driven Social Value Manager to lead the delivery of meaningful social impact at HMP Glasgow – a £750M flagship project replacing the aging HMP Barlinnie. This state-of-the-art facility is designed with rehabilitation and sustainability at its core, offering a unique opportunity to shape lives and communities for the better.

 

Location: Glasgow - On Site (Hybrid with some opportunity for home working) 

Hours: Full Time, Permanent,  Monday to Friday

What will you be responsible for?

 

As Social Value Manager, you'll be at the heart of our mission to build for a sustainable world. You'll lead the development and execution of innovative social value strategies, ensuring that local communities and underrepresented groups benefit from this landmark project.

 

Your day to day may include (but not be limited to) :

  • To work as part of project team deliver and implement social value strategy on a flagship project, ensuring that social value is a key component of the project success parameters.
  • Undertake hands on delivery of programmes and engagement for HMP Glasgow, leading on a wide variety of events and initiatives to engage external and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure that the project social value strategy is embedded in supply chain partner businesses, collaborate with their social value managers / leadership to ensure adequate focus and performance.
  • Manage project social value advisor and collaborate across the wider Kier business to ensure that best practice, insights and opportunities for working together are fully realised.
  • Arranging and chairing internal and external meetings, allocating appropriate resource, and being accountable for project targets and reporting.
  • Support strategic and regional work winning through contributions to future tenders, collaboration with Kier Communications teams and leveraging of external media channels to promote the great work Kier is doing in the space.
  • Create social value plans, support Social value advisor to do the same and act as a subject matter expert for the project and across Kier Group through internal networks.
  • Monitor project KPIs and ensure that targets are being met and risks are being mitigated.
  • Attend Social Impact Leadership Team meetings.
  • Take ownership of at least one subject as an SME (Subject Matter Expert) and create construction-wide resources (e.g. template responses, case studies, education resources)

 

What are we looking for?

 

This role of Social Value Manager is great for you if you can demonstrate:

  • Proven experience delivering social value within construction or the built environment.
  • Strong understanding of the Social Value Act, local authority drivers, and relevant frameworks (e.g., TOMs, CCS).
  • Experience managing social value teams or advisors, with leadership and mentoring capabilities.
  • Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on delivery.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels.
  • Experience building external networks with community organisations, local authorities, and industry bodies.
  • Skilled in preparing and managing project plans, tracking KPIs, and producing high-level reports.
  • Ability to identify and mitigate risks to ensure consistent delivery of social value targets.
  • Solid understanding of construction and infrastructure projects, including site operations.
  • Familiarity with sustainability frameworks and ESG goals.
  • Full UK Driving License.
  • Willingness to travel across Kier sites, offices, and third-party locations, including occasional overnight stays.
