Street Cleansing Operative

We're looking for a Street Cleansing Operative to join our Shropshire team based in various locations across Shropshire. In this role you'll play a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of our public spaces across Shropshire.

Location: Park Hall (Oswestry), Craven Arms, Longden Road (Shrewsbury), Cantern Brook (Bridgnorth), Weeping Cross (Shrewsbury)
Hours: Permanent Fulltime 40 hours per week
Salary: £27,976 per year + excellent benefits

What will you be responsible for?

As a Street Cleansing Operative, you'll be working as part of a supportive team, you'll help ensure our streets, footpaths, and public areas are kept to the highest standards for our communities. This is a hands-on role where you'll make a visible difference every day, contributing to the wellbeing and pride of local residents.

Your day to day will include:

  • Litter picking, hand sweeping, and emptying bins across designated areas
  • Operating compact pedestrian sweepers and other equipment safely and effectively
  • Removing fly-tipping and hazardous waste, including clinical waste (full training provided)
  • Reporting environmental issues such as damaged street furniture, graffiti, or vandalism
  • Engaging courteously with members of the public, promoting a positive image of Kier

What are we looking for?

This role of Street Cleansing Operative is ideal if you:

  • Have a full driving licence
  • Ability to use hand-held devices, such as smartphones and tablet.
  • Enjoy working as part of a team and can also work independently
  • Are happy working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Have good communication skills and a positive, flexible approach
  • Have basic literacy and numeracy skills, with a willingness to learn new tasks
