We're looking for an Technology Design Engineer to join our Technology Design team based in Manchester/Newcastle or Birmingham.

Location: Manchester/Newcastle or Birmingham – with agile working opportunity
Hours: 40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.

Starting: from £42,000 per annum

Sector: Mechanical Electrical and Technology – Highways

We're looking for a Technology Design Engineer to support the delivery of highways technology solutions across the full project lifecycle.

You'll play a key role in developing, coordinating and assuring designs for integrated digital and roadside systems — ensuring they are compliant, buildable and aligned to client requirements.

Working within a multidisciplinary team, you'll contribute to safe, efficient and future-ready infrastructure across major UK projects.

Are you…

  • HNC/Degree (or working towards)-qualified in Electrical, Electronic, Communications or Technology Engineering or equivalent relevant field?
  • Experienced in highways or infrastructure technology design?
  • Familiar with National Highways standards (e.g. DMRB, TA401)?
  • Comfortable working across ITS, communications or digital infrastructure?
  • A strong problem-solver with a collaborative approach?

Do you…

  • Develop design packages including ITS, communications, power and digital infrastructure?
  • Produce drawings, specifications and technical documentation (2D/3D)?
  • Support design assurance, reviews and compliance with governance frameworks?
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders?
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences?

What will you be responsible for?

As an Technology Design Engineer, you'll be working within the Technology Design team, supporting them in delivering high-quality highways technology design solutions. Your day to day will include:

  • Deliver technology design across ITS, communications, power and digital infrastructure
  • Produce drawings, specs and technical documentation (2D/3D)
  • Ensure compliance with DMRB, National Highways and industry standards
  • Apply design assurance, supporting reviews and gateway compliance
  • Identify and mitigate technical risk for right-first-time delivery
  • Support ITS, comms networks and smart / IoT-enabled infrastructure
  • Collaborate with clients, stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams
  • Contribute to bids, innovation, digital engineering and team development

What are we looking for?

This role of Technology Design Engineer is great for you if:

  • Have a Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical, Electronic, Communications or Technology Engineering
  • Have experience in highways or infrastructure technology design
  • Have knowledge of National Highways standards (e.g. DMRB, TA401)
  • Have experience with ITS, communications or digital infrastructure systems
  • Have understanding of ITS, telecoms/IP networks, and power/control systems
  • Have experience using CAD or digital engineering tools
  • Have strong problem-solving and ability to deliver to deadlines
  • Have clear communication and collaborative stakeholder approach
