Location: Plymouth – Devonport Royal Dockyard
Hours: 45 hours per week - some flexibility on start and end times available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.

Many positions within the project are subject to national security clearance restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
KierBAM is a Joint Venture partnership between Kier and BAM Nuttall. We are currently delivering an exciting redevelopment project at a Royal Navy site located in Plymouth. The Commercial Manager is responsible for managing the commercial aspects of construction projects, including contract management, cost control, risk assessment, and ensuring profitability while maintaining strong client relationships. Due to the sensitive nature of the site, BPSS security clearance is required. Please note that this process can take up to 8 weeks.
What will you be responsible for?
As a Commercial Manager, you'll be working within the KierBAM team, supporting them in delivering commercial excellence across the project. Your day to day will include:
- Managing and overseeing all commercial activities for projects
- Preparing and reviewing contracts, tenders, and procurement documentation while negotiating terms with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors
- Monitoring project budgets, costs, and forecasts to ensure financial targets are met
- Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities, whilst liaising closely with project managers, quantity surveyors, and stakeholders
- Leading claims management and dispute resolution processes, and preparing regular commercial reports including cost analysis and forecasts
What are we looking for?
This role of Commercial Manager is great for you if:
- You are a professionally qualified Manager with demonstrable post-qualification experience and hold a construction, commercial, or finance-related qualification (HNC, BSc, MSc, BEng, MEng)
- You hold Chartership and CSCS - White AQP/PQP
- You have a strong understanding of contract law and commercial best practices, with excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills
- You demonstrate financial literacy, including budgeting and cost control, with the ability to analyse complex data and make strategic decisions
- You are proficient with commercial and project management software
Rewards and benefits
We're proud to be able to offer our brilliant people a wide variety of benefits that you can tailor to your needs. You can see more information of benefits here.
Diversity and inclusion
Making Kier a diverse and inclusive place to work is a huge priority for us. We're proud of the steps we've taken so far, but we know we must always do more. Our employees are key in shaping Kier's diversity and inclusion initiatives and our people have made a huge impact on how we work, by using their experiences to shape our policies. You can see our D&I action plan here.
As a Disability Confident employer, we will ensure that a fair and proportionate number of disabled applicants that meet the minimum criteria for this role will be offered an interview.
Due to the nature of this role and the nature of the work at this site, you will be required to complete a BPSS, which takes place before your employment, and is conducted by the Cabinet Office's United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) agency who set out a pre-requisite criteria including residency history. Applicants with convictions will be treated on a case-by-case basis. We do not discriminate based on an applicant's conviction history or the details of any convictions disclosed to us - to read more about our programme to support people with convictions into employment, visit Making Ground. This role will also be subject to further pre-employment checks.
We look forward to seeing your application to #joinkier.
