The Street Scene Community Ranger plays a key role in supporting communities, enhancing public spaces, and maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment across the Shropshire Council area. You'll be working closely with Parish and Town Councils, community groups, partner organisations, volunteers, and a wider range of Shropshire Council services to deliver high-quality environmental and neighbourhood support. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in local communities while working outdoors and building meaningful connections with the people you serve.

What will you be responsible for?

As a Street Scene Community Ranger, you'll be working within the Street Scene team, supporting them in creating cleaner, safer, and more vibrant communities. Your day to day will include:

  • Liaising with Parish and Town Councils, community groups, schools, emergency services, and partner organisations to deliver public space initiatives and support community safety
  • Supporting and coordinating volunteers on community projects including litter picks, conservation activities, and winter gritting schemes
  • Conducting visual inspections to identify hazards, report defects, and ensure compliance with health and safety legislation
  • Assisting with practical habitat management, conservation work, graffiti removal, and special cleanse programmes across woodlands, nature reserves, and public open spaces
  • Monitoring contractor performance and working with Enforcement Officers to address environmental offences such as fly-tipping and littering

What are we looking for?

This role of Street Scene Community Ranger is great for you if:

  • You hold a full driving licence and are physically fit to carry out manual outdoor work in all weather conditions
  • You have technical skills and experience in street cleaning and grounds-maintenance operations, including safe use of power tools and machinery
  • You possess strong communication skills and enjoy working professionally with diverse groups including the public, councillors, community representatives, and businesses
  • You have a good understanding of Health & Safety regulations, including COSHH and safe working practices
  • You're self-motivated, community-focused, and confident working on your own initiative while being a collaborative team player
