Community Steward
We're looking for a Community Steward to join our North Northamptonshire Council team based in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.
In this rewarding role, you'll be at the heart of the local community, acting as a visible and approachable presence while representing both North Northamptonshire Council and Kier. As the eyes and ears of the community, you'll help identify local issues, support residents, and contribute to creating cleaner, safer, and more welcoming neighbourhoods. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a genuine impact every day while delivering an exceptional service and building positive relationships across the community.
Location: Wellingborough, Northamptonshire – site based 5 days per week
Hours: Permanent Fulltime 40 per week
Salary: £30,000 - £34,000 per year + company van + excellent benefits

What will you be responsible for?
As a Community Steward, you'll respond to public enquiries, carry out inspections, and assess highway defects whilst engaging professionally with customers and stakeholders. Your day to day will include:
- Carrying out site visits and inspections in response to public enquiries and service requests from the Network Intelligence Operations Centre
- Categorising and logging defects onto the Works Management System and updating customers on progress
- Attending emergency incidents as the first point of contact to assess and respond to situations on the network
- Identifying and controlling key risks and hazards on site, completing minor repairs and issuing instructions for follow-up works
- Participating in Out of Hours or Winter Service rotas, which may include winter salting treatment
What are we looking for?
This role of Community Steward is a great fit if you:
- Have experience in highways maintenance, roadworks, or responding to emergencies and incidents
- Hold qualifications such as NRSWA, SSSTS, SMSTS, or similar
- Are comfortable using IT systems and can communicate clearly with colleagues, contractors, and members of the public
- Enjoy helping people and can remain calm, professional, and understanding in a variety of situations
- Hold a full driving licence
