Drainage Operative
We're looking for a Drainage Highways Maintenance Operative to join our Kier Birmingham Highways Maintenance team based in Birmingham. Due to the nature of this position a full driving licence is required.
Location: Birmingham (Thimble Mill Lane)
Hours: 40 hours per week - Monday to Friday
Salary: From £27,976 per annum plus overtime, standby and call out available

We are looking for a Drainage Highways Maintenance Operative to join our Birmingham Highways team. You will play a key role in maintaining the city's drainage network, helping to prevent flooding and ensure the safe operation of the highway. Working as part of a crew, you will undertake both planned and reactive drainage works across the network.
What will you be responsible for?
As a Drainage Highways Maintenance Operative, you'll be working within the Birmingham Highways team, supporting them in maintaining the city's drainage network and ensuring safe highway operations. Your day to day will include:
- Carry out gully emptying, cleansing and drainage maintenance activities
- Use jetting and vacuum equipment to clear blockages and respond to flooding emergencies
- Undertake minor civils works, including excavation and reinstatement
- Repair and install ironwork, gullies and drainage assets
- Set up and maintain traffic management and complete daily job records using company systems
What are we looking for?
This role of Drainage Highways Maintenance Operative is great for you if:
- You have experience in highways maintenance or drainage operations
- You're comfortable working outdoors and carrying out manual, physical tasks
- You have a strong awareness of health & safety practices
- You're reliable, team-oriented and able to respond to urgent issues
- You hold qualifications such as NRSWA, High Pressure Water Jetting, or Utilities Excavation
