Highways Safety Inspector
We're looking for a Highways Safety Inspector to join our Birmingham team based in Birmingham. As a Highways Safety Inspector, you'll play a vital role in maintaining a safe and serviceable highway network.
Location: Birmingham – site based 5 days per week
Hours: Permanent Fulltime 40 hours per week
Salary: up to £30,530 per year + benefits

What will you be responsible for?
As a Highways Safety Inspector, you'll carry out risk-based inspections, identify and record defects accurately, and provide clear evidence that supports public safety, statutory compliance, and effective works planning. Your day to day will include:
- Carrying out driven, walked and technology-supported highway safety inspections in line with local policy and best practice
- Identifying, assessing and recording defects across highway assets, applying professional judgement to support timely intervention
- Managing works orders and customer enquiries within data-management systems, ensuring records are accurate and auditable
- Supporting works planning and performance reporting through reliable inspection data
- Building effective relationships with stakeholders and providing evidence for claims defence when required
What are we looking for?
This role of Highways Safety Inspector is ideal for someone who:
- Holds a Lantra Highway Inspector qualification or equivalent recognised highway inspection certification
- Has a full UK driving licence and is confident carrying out inspections across a busy highway network
- Demonstrates strong knowledge of highway maintenance standards, legislation, inspection procedures and health & safety requirements
- Is a confident communicator with excellent written and verbal skills, capable of building relationships and managing workloads independently
- Is comfortable using highway asset management systems, mobile technology and digital reporting tools to capture accurate inspection data
