What will you be responsible for?

As a Permitting Officer, you'll be based within a busy London Borough, working closely with both schemes' delivery and reactive maintenance teams. The role involves managing permits and co‑ordinating streetworks activity across the network, from smaller maintenance defects through to larger resurfacing schemes and network upgrades, helping to keep works compliant, well‑planned and running smoothly while minimising disruption on the highway.

Your day to day will include:

  • Preparing, submitting and managing streetworks permit applications in accordance with the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, Traffic Management Act 2004, and London Permitting Scheme
  • Ensuring permits are submitted within statutory timeframes with accurate details of works, duration, traffic management and location
  • Monitoring permit statuses including approvals, conditions, variations, extensions and Fixed Penalty Notices
  • Co-ordinating with internal works management systems and programme of works to plan and permit activities
  • Liaising with stakeholders to minimise disruption whilst maintaining compliance

What are we looking for?

This Permitting Officer role is a great fit for someone who brings:

  • A solid understanding of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 and the Traffic Management Act 2004
  • Experience working within the London Permitting Scheme (LoPS)
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills, with a keen eye for detail
  • Confidence in communicating clearly and co‑ordinating with a wide range of stakeholders
  • A proactive approach and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
