We're looking for a Principal Structural Engineer to join our Structures & Geotechnical – Building Structures team based nationwide.

Location: Nationwide
Hours: 40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.

We're seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to join our award-winning national Structural Engineering team. Working within Kier Design's growing 750-strong consultancy, you'll act as the technical lead on major building structures projects, delivering high-quality, sustainable solutions whilst mentoring and developing others. This role offers the opportunity to work across a diverse national portfolio of large-scale projects, with exposure to both public and private sector schemes.

Are you…

  • A Chartered Structural Engineer (CEng, MIStructE or MICE) with strong technical credibility?
  • Experienced delivering large, complex building structures projects as technical lead?
  • Passionate about sustainable, low carbon structural design?

Do you…

  • Lead structural design from concept through to delivery on major projects?
  • Design in steel, concrete, timber and masonry to current Eurocodes?
  • Use tools such as TEDDS, Tekla Structural Designer, Masterseries or Revit?
  • Have strong knowledge of CDM, Building Safety Act and UK construction standards?
  • Develop fee proposals, manage budgets and deliver projects to programme?
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders across complex schemes?

What will you be responsible for?

As a Principal Structural Engineer, you'll be working within the Building Structures team, supporting them in delivering complex structural engineering solutions across a varied project portfolio. Main responsibilities will include:

  • Lead structural design on major and complex building projects
  • Prepare and review calculations, models, drawings, reports and specifications
  • Manage delivery including programme, budget, risk and resource planning
  • Develop structural concepts aligned to sustainability and low carbon targets
  • Coordinate design across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders
  • Mentor and support the development of Engineers and Technicians
  • Carry out site inspections and structural assessments on new and existing buildings
  • Lead Building Control and Building Safety Act compliance, engaging with statutory bodies
  • Represent Kier at client, design and project meetings
  • Support bids, fee proposals and project planning activities

What are we looking for?

This role of Principal Structural Engineer is great for you if:

  • Are a Chartered Engineer (CEng, MIStructE or MICE) with a Structural or Civil Engineering degree
  • Have a strong experience delivering large, multi-storey building structures in steel and concrete
  • Have a proven capability in a multidisciplinary design environment
  • Have knowledge of CDM, Building Safety Act and UK construction standards
  • Have experience carrying out site inspections and structural assessments
  • Are proficiency in TEDDS, Tekla Structural Designer, Masterseries or Revit
  • Have experience reviewing work, managing quality and delivering to programme and budget
  • Have understanding of sustainability and low carbon design principles
