We're looking for a Street Lighting Inspector (night scout) to join our Shropshire Region team based in Shropshire.

Location: Shropshire (North, Central, South) - Based at Longden Road, Shrewsbury
Hours: 30 hours per week (night hours – darkness)

Salary: £20,982 per annum

We are unable to offer certificates of sponsorship to any candidates in this role.

Join our team as a Street Lighting Inspector and play a vital role in keeping Shropshire's streets safe and well-lit. You'll be working during hours of darkness, inspecting street lighting columns and other assets across the county. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the safety and wellbeing of your local community whilst working independently in a varied and meaningful role.

What will you be responsible for?

As a Street Lighting Inspector (night scout), you'll be working within the Street Lighting team, supporting them in ensuring Shropshire Council's street lighting assets remain safe and functional. Your day to day will include:

  • Inspecting street lighting columns and recording faults or outages using digital platforms
  • Undertaking part-night light checks to ensure streetlights dim or turn off as scheduled
  • Identifying and reporting hazards on the network, escalating urgent issues through emergency procedures
  • Supporting digital working practices and maintaining efficient records
  • Promoting health, safety and wellbeing innovations whilst complying with lone working procedures

What are we looking for?

This role of Street Lighting Inspector (night scout) is great for you if:

  • You hold a Full driving licence
  • You're confident using PC and mobile devices
  • You have good communication skills and can undertake administrative tasks
  • You're comfortable working independently during night hours
  • You understand the importance of health and safety, particularly when working alone
