We're looking for a Trainee Operative to join our team based in Wymondham, Norfolk.

Location: Wymondham, Norfolk – site based 5 days per week
Hours: 45 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us

This is an exciting opportunity to begin your career in highways and construction. As a Trainee Operative, you'll be working hands-on to support the delivery of civil engineering and highways projects. You'll gain valuable experience in a collaborative environment where safety, quality, and teamwork are at the heart of everything we do. This role offers the chance to develop your skills while contributing to meaningful projects in your local community.

What will you be responsible for?
As a Trainee Operative, you'll be working within the site team, supporting them in delivering construction and highways works safely and to the highest quality standards. Your day to day will include:

  • Carrying out general site duties including groundwork, excavation support, and assisting with kerbing, paving, and drainage tasks
  • Ensuring all work follows health and safety regulations, including using PPE correctly and following method statements
  • Loading, unloading, and moving materials safely around the site while maintaining cleanliness and organisation
  • Supporting plant operators and skilled trades, and setting up traffic management or barriers as required
  • Working collaboratively with your team, communicating clearly about progress, and contributing to a positive working environment

What are we looking for?
This role of Trainee Operative is great if you:

  • Hold an NRSWA Operative qualification or are keen to build on your highways and construction experience
  • Have a First Aid qualification and are committed to maintaining a safe working environment
  • Hold a full driving licence and are happy travelling to different work locations when required
  • Enjoy working as part of a team, communicating effectively, and learning from experienced colleagues
  • Are enthusiastic about working outdoors in all weather conditions, with a practical mindset and a willingness to develop new skills and solve problems every day
